The Lyric of Skirts

The Lyric of Skirts is a form of music used to commemorate important events originally devised by the goblin Atu Hatepuppets. The form guides musicians during improvised performances. A singer recites nonsensical words and sounds while the music is played on one to four thilama. The musical voices bring melody with harmony. The entire performance is to fade into silence. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, performers are to glide from note to note.

• Each thilama always does the main melody and should be graceful.
• The Lyric of Skirts has the following structure: a verse and a chorus.
• The verse is at a hurried pace. The singer's voice stays in the high register. This passage typically has some sparse chords.
• The chorus gradually slows as it comes to an end. The singer's voice ranges from the middle register to the high register. This passage features only melodic tones and intervals.
