The Flare of Heating

The Flare of Heating is a devotional form of music directed toward the worship of Deler originally devised by the dwarf Datan Paddledancient. The form guides musicians during improvised performances. The music is played on a muthir, three to five rithzam and a nokim. The musical voices bring melody, counterpoint and rhythm. The entire performance is moderately paced, and it is to be in whispered undertones. The melody has long phrases, while the counterpoint has mid-length phrases throughout the form. Never more than an interval sounds at once. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, performers are to add fills.

• The muthir always provides the rhythm and should feel tender. The voice stays in the strained low register.
• Each rithzam always does the main melody and should be bright. The voice stays in the quavering middle register.
• The nokim always does the counterpoint melody and should feel calm. The voice is confined to the evolving high register.
• The Flare of Heating has a simple structure: three unrelated passages.
• Each of the simple passages should be performed using grace notes.
