The Wispy Embraces

The Wispy Embraces is a form of music used to commemorate important events originally devised by the elf Pari Sharkraven. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on two refa and two otoga. The music is melody and rhythm without harmony. The entire performance becomes frenzied as it proceeds. The melody has mid-length phrases throughout the form. Only one pitch is ever played at a time. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to glide from note to note and play rapid runs.

• Each refa always provides the rhythm and should be merry.
• Each otoga always does the main melody and should bring a sense of motion. The voice stays in the quavering middle register.
• The Wispy Embraces has a simple structure: a passage.
