The Scintillating Pregnancy
The Scintillating Pregnancy is a form of music used for entertainment originally devised by the elf Oda Silkenpuzzles. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. A speaker recites nonsensical words and sounds while the music is played on a thimire. The musical voices are joined in melody. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to locally improvise.
- The speaker always should bring a sense of motion.
- The thimire always does the main melody and should evoke tears.
- The Scintillating Pregnancy has a well-defined multi-passage structure: an introduction and one to two passages and an additional passage.
- The introduction becomes calmer as the end is approached. The thimire stays in the wispy low register. Only one pitch is ever played at a time in this passage.
- Each of the first simple passages is very slow, and it is to become louder and louder. The thimire ranges from the warm middle register to the muddy high register. This passage features only melodic tones and intervals.
- The second simple passage is slower than the last passage, and it is to be moderately soft. The thimire ranges from the wispy low register to the warm middle register. Only one pitch is ever played at a time in this passage.
