The Amethyst of Drums

The Amethyst of Drums is a form of music used to commemorate important events originally devised by the elf Inevi Squeezedlathered. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on one to two lethathi, a ipivi and a aro. The musical voices bring melody with harmony. The entire performance should be made with feeling, and it is to be very loud. The melody has mid-length phrases throughout the form. Pitches are densely packed in clusters as music moves from chord to chord. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to glide from note to note and make trills.

• Each lethathi always does harmony. The voice stays in the rippling low register.
• The ipivi always does the main melody. The voice uses its entire range from the ringing low register to the piercing high register.
• The aro always does the main melody.
• The Amethyst of Drums has a simple structure: a passage.
• The simple passage is extremely fast.
