The Embraced Smile

The Embraced Smile is a form of music used for entertainment originally devised by the elf Amoya Rocksglee. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on a thawa and a foli. The music is melody and rhythm without harmony. The entire performance should be stately and is slow. The melody has phrases of varied length throughout the form. Never more than an interval sounds at once. The music repeats for as long as necessary. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to add fills and alternate tension and repose.

• The thawa always does the main melody. The voice uses its entire range from the heavy low register to the raspy high register.
• The foli always provides the rhythm. The voice uses its entire range from the heavy low register to the flat high register.
• The Embraced Smile has a simple structure: three to four unrelated passages.
• Each of the simple passages is to be moderately soft.
