The Teal Dunes is a poetic riddle intended to describe Lebeyu originally devised by the elf Liyiyi Slapseason. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is a single quatrain. The Teal Dunes is always written from the perspective of the author. Use of consonance is characteristic of the form. A form of parallelism is common throughout the poem, in that certain lines are required to maintain phrasing. The first line has two feet with a tone pattern of even-even-uneven. The second line has two feet with a tone pattern of even-even-uneven. The third line has two feet with a tone pattern of even-uneven-even. The fourth line has two feet with a tone pattern of even-uneven-even. The rhyme scheme of the poem is AAAB.
