The Prim Sister

The Prim Sister is a poetic riddle which grew out of the performances of The Teal Tongs. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into three distinct parts: a tercet, a septet and two to three quatrains. Every line of the poem has an initial caesura.

• The first part concerns the past. It has lines with eight syllables.
• The second part concerns current events. It has lines with ten syllables. The refrain occurs as line seven.
• The third part concerns the future. It has lines with six syllables. The refrain occurs as line two.
