The Cinnamon Ferry

The Cinnamon Ferry is a poetic riddle concerning family which grew out of the performances of The Whiskered Furnaces. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into a couplet and an octet. Use of assonance is characteristic of the form. Each line has two syllables.

• The first part is intended to express grief over the subject of the poem. The second line of the couplet must expand the idea of the first line.
• The second part is intended to console the audience. The seventh line of the octet must expand the idea of the second line.
