The Lessons of Amethyst

The Lessons of Amethyst is a dramatic poetic form intended to describe someone recently retired, originating in The Hale Field. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is two quintains. Use of synchysis is characteristic of the form. Each line has seven syllables. Every line of the poem has an initial caesura. The fourth line of each quintain contrasts the underlying meaning of the first line. The fifth line of each quintain has the same grammatical structure as the first line.
