The Poetic Knowledge

The Poetic Knowledge is a ribald poetic form concerning someone recently retired originally devised by the elf Pila Thunderglosses. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into a series of sexains and an extremely long series of quintains. Use of vivid imagery is characteristic of the form. Each line has eight syllables.

• The first part is intended to make a concession. Certain lines often share an underlying meaning. The refrain occurs as line five.
• The second part is intended to make an assertion. Certain lines often share an underlying meaning. The refrain occurs as line two.
